Releveling and Paving Building Front Entrance
This front entrance of our small condo had pre-existing bricks that were not leveled or properly sloped to the drain. There were also some planter boxes built into the ground, as well as an uncomfortable bench. Residents wanted to re-use the existing pavers and wood trim if possible.
Other members of the condo helped with the work. Pavers were removed, additional sand was spread and compacted, and rotten wood edging was replaced where necessary. If you look closely you can see a few places where flat edged paver bricks were used back to back in the middle, as there was a limited supply of existing paver bricks. Grass seed was spread along the edges where walkway was slimmed down.
Rebuilding a basement shower
This basement suite shower always smelled musty and wet, and it was starting to deteriorate. Tiles were removed and it was found that the deck mud using shower pan liner was not correctly installed, allowing excess water to pool below the weep holes of the drain, always sitting at the bottom of the shower. While the shower was disassembled, the shower head was raised higher on the wall.
After replacing and properly leveling the deck mud of the shower, cement backer board was installed on all 3 walls, and a topical waterproofing membrane was installed, properly tying into the drain. Inexpensive 12 inch square tiles were used for the walls with a brick-like pattern (horizontal offset), and mosaic tiles on the ground to better accommodate the sloped surface. Original door hardware was reinstalled to reduce costs.
